Nigeria, one of Africa’s most populous countries has been able to save a whopping N192 billion through the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), which vehemently refused the approval the importation of technologies and services that could be rendered locally by Nigerians.

NOTAP, an agency of government saddled with the responsibility to implement the acquisition, promotion and development of technology and correct certain imperfections in the acquisition of foreign technology in Nigeria made the saving between 2010 –2016.

The Director General of NOTAP, Dr. Danazumi Mohammed Ibrahim, who made the disclosure at a media interaction in its Liaison Office in Lagos, noted that the savings were made by simply carrying out its statutory function of registration of technology transfer agreements.

“In carrying out our statutory function of registration of the Technology Transfer Agreement, NOTAP has saved Nigeria N192 billion between 2010 and 2016. This sum if not for NOTAP intervention would have left the country as capital flight,” he said

Danazumi added that the action is also part of its effort to ensure the acceleration of Nigeria’s drive towards a rapid technological revolution with a concerted development of indigenous technologies.
