    2017 eNigeria conference to address local content challenges, promote digital economy

    The 2017 eNigeria Conference has been strategically designed to address some of the challenges of driving local content participation and promote digital economy.

    A statement by the organizer of the conference, the National Information Technology Development Agency(NITDA) said the Conference, which will be declared open by His Excellency, President Mohammadu Buhari, will promote deliberations on how Nigeria could thicken the value of its policy thrust on local content in pursuit of a national economy that is less dependent on crude oil export.

    “This year’s eNigeria conference is designed around local content and digital economy. It is an effort towards taking Nigeria from oil dependent country. It is also a veritable platform for ICT awareness creation, developing an appropriate framework and setting goals for best practices in order to enhance the appropriate positioning of Nigeria in the global information society,” the statement added.

    The statement signed by  Mrs. Hadiza Umar, Head, Corporate Affairs & External Relations noted that the Conference will bring together IT experts, solution providers and major stakeholders from both within and outside Nigeria, with a view to brainstorming on current and relevant IT issues across the globe with the major aim of leveraging on them for sustainable socioeconomic development of Nigeria.

    eNigeria Conference is touted as the no. 1 Information Technology Conference in Nigeria. NITDA is organizing the conference in collaboration with relevant IT stakeholders from public, private sector as well as non-governmental organisations.

    The theme of this year’s edition, which happens to be the 10th  is “Fostering Digital Economy through Local Content Development and Effective Regulations”. It is holding inside the International Conference Centre, Abuja from 7th to 9th of November, 2017.

    Other sub-themes that tie up with the main themes are:  ‘Roadmap towards national ICT skills framework development; Positioning the nation to harvest value from emerging technologies; Improving the delivery of public services through ICT innovations; Indigenous ICT innovation management for national development;  and Demand shaping for local content promotion: entrepreneurial opportunities and regulatory challenges.’

    Speakers at the event include, the Minister of Communications, Barrister Abdur-Raheem Adebayo Shittu who is also the Chief Host of the event and the Director General of  the NITDA), Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, who is the Host and Convener of eNigeria 2017.

    Speakers also include the Mr Adekunle Ajiboye, CEO of Ajimantics Limited Canada; Raul Kaidro, CEO, Raul Walter, Estonia; Managing Partner of Technology Advisors, Mr. Basil Udotai; the CEO of InfoGraphics Nigeria, Chinenye Mba-Uzoukwu; and the former Director of the United Nations Foundation’s Information & Communications Technology (ICT), Dr Ime Asangansi, among others.
