A delegation from the Prime Minister & the Cabinet Office of the United Kingdom government, earlier this week visited the corporate secretariat of the Association of Telecom Companies of Nigeria (ATCON).

The delegation, which was led by Mr. Dirk Danino-Forsyth, Head of Strategic Communications – International Projects, Government Communication Service International had a meeting with Mr Olusola Teniola, President ATCON and other NEC members.

The meeting borders on connectivity, digital inclusion and cyber security.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr Dirk Danino-Forsyth noted that the President and other NEC members of ATCON, have used the platform to grow the telecom and ICT sector in a remarkable manner.

He disclosed that the government of the United Kingdom is interested in growing the Nigerian telecom and ICT sector further and that is why they were sent by the government to ascertain the status of connectivity, digital inclusion and cyber security in Nigeria.

Commenting, Mr Olusola Teniola, President ATCON, appreciated the UK Government for deeming it fit to cross check the real situation of things with respect to the aforementioned focus of the meeting. He said both the regulator and the players in the industry are doing their best, but the support of the UK government would make the country to realize its goals for the industry faster.

Thus, ATCON promised to work with them on ensuring that there is connectivity, expanded digital inclusion and mitigation against cyber attacks in the country.
