The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has secured the sum of $443million from foreign donors, such as the World Bank and the European Union, report says.

The donation, according to Bloomberg, will afford NIMC to collect data nationwide, harmonise Nigeria’s database, which has been fragmented and give its citizens put at roughly 200 million identity numbers.

“We have a thousand data centers across Nigeria, it’s not enough capacity to capture and provide identification for about 200 million Nigerians and non-Nigerians. This is why we are partnering with private sector and government agencies,” the report quoted Aliyu Aziz, Director General of NIMC to have said.

The report disclosed that Nigeria has at least 13 federal agencies and three state agencies offering ID services. But even at that, only about 38percent of Nigerians have any form of identity document.
