The management of MTN Nigeria said a whooping one billion free Short Message Service (SMS) were sent by Nigerians using its network in four weeks.
The biggest Mobile Network Operator in Nigeria in terms of subscribers base, disclosed this information in a tweet, attributing the huge number to the free SMS it instituted as part of an effort for Nigerians to connect to their loved one across the country in the Covid-19 pandemic period.
“One billion free SMS sent in four weeks as at April 28, 2020. We are very elated to be the brand that connects people with their loved one at a time like this,” the telecom company said via its handle @MTNNG.
In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, MTN Nigeria announced measures for Nigerians to stay connected while staying safe. One of the measures is the offering of 10 free daily SMS for all subscribers to all networks.
“We understand how important it is to keep in touch with loved ones during this period. Now you can with FREE 300 SMS to all networks. You will be able to send 10 messages daily for 30days to your loved ones on any network,” it announced.
