An Equinix Company, MainOne has undertaken important improvement and renovation work at Okun Ajah Community Senior Secondary School, Eti Osa, Lagos, as this year’s recipient of its annual Corporate Social Responsibility program.

The school, which is a government-owned secondary school close to the Lekki Data Centre and cable landing station in Lagos, serves several communities (Okunmopo, Eti Osa, Lafiaku, Ogombo, Resettlement, Ibeju Lekki, Owonikoko, etc.), and is the only senior high school within those communities, with 620 students currently enrolled.

Part of the renovation in the school includes providing desks and chairs for students, renovating the library, painting 16 classrooms and improving the computer room capabilities by adding desktop computers, providing internet connectivity, and putting in an inverter for backup power.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Tinuola Ipadeola, Head of Corporate Services stated that “we take on this responsibility every year because we believe in the power of education. In this fast-paced digital age, every student must be equipped with the right tools and exposure to succeed. We are happy to have this opportunity to give back to our society together with the Equinix Foundation and will continue to nurture the potential of the students and improve the way they learn in school, one community at a time”.

MainOne, the connectivity and data center solutions provider’s support for the Okun Ajah Community Senior Secondary School once again demonstrates its unwavering commitment to its host communities by equipping schools for improved educational effectiveness under the umbrella of its annual Corporate Social Responsibility program. In addition, Equinix’s own Community Impact program added its backing to support the reconstruction and refurbishment of the school.

Meanwhile, an elated Dr. (Mrs.) R. A. Salisu, School Principal, Okun Ajah Community Senior Secondary School has expressed heartfelt gratitude of the entire staff and students of the school.

Hear her: “We sincerely appreciate MainOne for all the renovations done. The students will learn better in this conducive environment you have provided. These will go a long way to impact their academics. We will ensure that these facilities are properly maintained” she stated.

MainOne employees play a key role in facilitating this annual Corporate Social Responsibility initiative by joining forces to serve the communities through fundraising and volunteering in the renovation activities of the schools in its host communities. Since 2011, MainOne has been supporting educational institutions with yearly donations of study materials, renovation of critical infrastructure, technical trainings on STEM skills and provision of computers to strengthen the education of the younger generations and increase digital inclusion.

Equinix also recently launched the Equinix Foundation, partnering with organisations to advance digital inclusion, from providing access to technology and connectivity to developing the skills required for technology careers. The Foundation aims to support non-profits working to prepare individuals of all ages and backgrounds to succeed in today’s digital world.
