The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has introduced a new self-service modification solution, enabling Nigerians to update their personal information, including name, phone number, date of birth, and address, directly through the NIMC’s online portal or mobile application.

In a speech delivered at the DigiVation Future Summit and Awards, NIMC’s Director General/CEO, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, explained that the self-service modification feature was designed to streamline the process of obtaining the General Multi-Purpose Card (GMPC) and improve the overall user experience.

“By launching this solution, we aim to empower Nigerians who may have made errors during their initial NIN enrollment to easily correct their information,” she stated, insisting that the service is part of NIMC’s efforts to discourage middle-men who were charging Nigerians exorbitant fees to modify their NIN.

Coker-Odusote highlighted NIMC’s strategic partnerships with various government agencies and private sector organizations, which have contributed to significant improvements across multiple sectors of the economy, including finance, telecommunications, security, and social programs.

“The high availability verification system is just one example of how we have modernized and repositioned NIMC to effectively fulfill its mandate,” she added.

Encouraging the public to embrace technology and innovation, Coker-Odusote emphasized NIMC’s commitment to driving Nigeria’s digital transformation and contributing to Africa’s broader agenda of economic growth. She noted that digital identity will be crucial in facilitating seamless transactions, building trust, and fostering economic development in the future.

“NIMC is dedicated to building a robust digital identity infrastructure that will support Nigeria’s future economy and position the country as a leader in the digital age,” she assured. “Our goal is to create a secure, interoperable, and scalable digital identity ecosystem that meets the needs of our people and nation.”
