Following a month-long initiative aimed to equip women with valuable skills and knowledge in the print and imaging sectors, Canon, a leader in imaging solutions in partnership with WISCAR (Women in Successful Careers) today graduated 15 women in Nigeria in what it tagged “Women Who Empower” program. .

At the graduation ceremony held at the Radisson Blu Ikeja, Lagos, Canon Ambassadors, Emmanuel Oyeleke (lifestyle photographer) and Daniel Ehimen (cinematographer & director), who led the month-long workshops on photography, videography, content creation, and printing emphasized empowerment and inclusion.

The two instructors noted that the initiative shows Canon’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, which aligns with its “Kyosei” philosophy, which emphasizes working together for the common good.

Mrs. Amina Oyagbola, WISCAR founder, highlighted the program’s success in breaking down barriers and creating a more inclusive future in these industries. Also, Somesh Adukia, Canon’s Managing Director for Central & North Africa, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing Canon’s dedication to building an environment where everyone can thrive.

The event featured a captivating exhibition showcasing the participants’ newfound skills. Two outstanding participants, Joy Ngwolo (photographer) and Obianuju Lilian Ikegbune (PR & Marketing Strategist), were recognized for their exceptional dedication and progress.

Ngwolo expressed her gratitude for the program’s transformative training, which has significantly improved her photography skills. Ikegbune emphasized the valuable knowledge she gained in storytelling techniques and brand communication, which will enhance her professional career.

The program offered a comprehensive curriculum:

    • Content Creation: Led by Ehimen, the course covered videography fundamentals, camera mastery, storytelling, and hands-on experience.
    • Photography: Oyeleke led this course, focusing on core principles, storytelling, and practical exercises to solidify participants’ behind-the-lens skills.
    • Printing: Oyeleke also conducted a workshop on printing solutions for photo portfolios and studio setups.

The “Women Who Empower” program marked a significant step in empowering women in Nigeria’s print and imaging industries. Canon’s commitment to diversity and inclusion and its plans for future collaborations demonstrate its dedication to empowering individuals and communities through innovation and creativity.

Canon’s advocacy for women’s empowerment is evident in its diverse leadership team, with over 63% of women occupying leadership roles in the Middle East and Africa headquarters. The “Women Who Empower” program serves as a testament to this ongoing commitment.
