Nigeria’s government has disclosed plans to connect all 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the country, leveraging the robust infrastructure of the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT).
Speaking to selected journalists on the sideline of Ka-band VSAT Installation training in Lagos yesterday, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NIGCOMSAT Limited, Mrs. Jane Nkechi Egerton-Idehen, noted that the strategic initiative aims to bridge the digital divide and provide equitable access to information and communication technology across the nation.
“The Project 774 LGA Connectivity is a key component of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy’s strategic blueprint. By connecting all LGAs, the government seeks to create jobs and deliver efficient public services to Nigerians at the grassroots level,” the NIGCOMSAT boss, who was represented by the Head of Marketing and Stakeholders’ engagement, Olufunke Fagbeja said.
She disclosed that NIGCOMSAT has commenced training accredited installers across the country to facilitate the rapid deployment of internet connectivity. The company is utilizing its Ku-Band network asset from the NigComSat-1R satellite to connect 579 LGAs. To date, 40 LGAs in eight states have been connected.
“Our mission at NIGCOMSAT is to bridge the digital divide and ensure that every Nigerian has access to reliable communication services. We are committed to Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) and working closely with our resellers and channel partners to achieve this goal,” she added.
The training program for installers is designed to equip them with the latest VSAT technology knowledge, best practices, and hands-on experience.

As the project progresses, the government anticipates significant socio-economic benefits, including improved access to education, healthcare, and government services for millions of Nigerians.
