A new whitepaper commissioned by Infobip predicts a significant surge in RCS messaging traffic over the next five years.

According to data from Omdia, RCS Application to Person (A2P) and Person to Person (P2P) traffic is expected to quadruple, growing from 1.5 trillion messages in 2024 to over 6 trillion messages by 2029. This surge is expected to generate $4.2 billion in revenue for A2P RCS by 2029.

RCS, the next evolution of SMS, offers enhanced features like sending and receiving rich media messages over a data connection or Wi-Fi. With Apple’s recent adoption of RCS in iOS 18, Omdia forecasts a cross-platform reach of approximately 2.5 billion monthly active users by the end of 2024.

The Americas and Asia & Oceania are projected to be the primary drivers of A2P RCS traffic and revenue growth. Charlotte Palfrey, Senior Analyst at Omdia, emphasized the benefits of RCS for enterprises and telcos. She highlighted the potential of generative AI to personalize RCS campaigns and improve customer engagement. Telcos, on the other hand, are encouraged to raise awareness about RCS among enterprises and consumers while leveraging RCS internally for marketing and customer care purposes.

Ivan Ostojic, Chief Business Officer at Infobip, emphasized the universal availability of RCS following Apple’s upgrade. He highlighted the benefits for both consumers and businesses, enabling seamless communication and enhanced customer experiences.

Infobip offers enterprises and telcos the opportunity to leverage RCS Business Messaging through its Messaging-as-a-Platform (MaaP) service. Infobip’s MaaP solution provides essential features like throughput control, content and spam control, while its CPaaS offering facilitates connectivity with other Mobile Network Operators. Additional benefits include detailed billing and reporting, faster brand and partner approval, increased user control, and managed service options
