The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) has hailed the appointment of Engr. Babachir David Lawal as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, whom the umbrella body of all IT professionals in Nigeria described as a core professional with immense experience in the private and public sectors before establishing his own ICT Consulting firm in 1990. “This appointment is a welcome one and is in furtherance of our belief that the much awaited change is here. The appointment has also shown that the President is a listening one, considering that the appointment came on the heels of our call to the President to consider professionals of untainted integrity in appointments to his cabinet,” NCS said in a statement by its president, Prof. G.A. Aderounmu The Nigeria Computer Society as the umbrella body of all the IT professionals and interest groups in Nigeria firmly believes that this appointment will facilitate the realization of a truly digital society where government business is largely driven by ICT as it is the global practice. NCS said while it looks forward to the appointment of one of its members as the Minister of Communication Technology, it wishes to re-iterate its readiness as a group to collaborate with government at all levels in all areas of IT for developmental purposes and also in confronting some of the nation’s challenges especially as it relates to security.
