Anambra State, under the leadership of Governor Charles Soludo, is set to host its inaugural Innovation Week (AIW) from November 25th to 29th, 2024, in Awka. The event aims to spotlight Africa’s burgeoning tech and innovation ecosystem and position Anambra as the “Silicon Valley of Africa.”

Chinwe Okoli, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Innovation and Business Incubation, announced that AIW will be an annual event, featuring a diverse range of activities including exhibitions, competitions, fireside chats, and masterclasses. The centerpiece of the week will be the “Battle4Solutions” innovation competition, offering a prize pool of over N100 million to startups tackling critical societal challenges in healthcare, renewable energy, and education.

To support this vision, the state government has launched initiatives like LevelUp Anambra and Code Anambra, training over 25,000 young people in cutting-edge tech skills. Additionally, a massive fiber optic network is being deployed to ensure widespread internet connectivity. The former Government House is being repurposed into a 13.7-hectare innovation hub, the Solution Innovation District (SID).

As applications for the Battle4Solutions competition open, anticipation builds for AIW. With a stellar lineup of speakers and partners yet to be announced, Anambra is poised to become a global hub for innovation and entrepreneurship.
