TelCables Nigeria, a subsidiary of Angola Cables, is set to enhance connectivity and cloud access across West Africa by establishing a new Point of Presence (PoP) at the Rack Centre Lagos facility.
This strategic move aims to significantly improve digital connectivity in the region, providing businesses and communities with easier and more affordable access to digital content and services.
Fernando Fernandes, CEO of TelCables Nigeria and West Africa, highlighted the importance of this expansion, stating, “The new PoP at Rack Centre is a crucial step towards strengthening West Africa’s digital infrastructure. By localizing traffic, we can provide faster, more reliable internet access to local enterprises, government institutions, and individuals.”
With direct access to Angola Cables’ SACS and WACS subsea cables, the new PoP will enable efficient routing of data traffic to South America, the US, and Europe. This redundancy option ensures reliable connectivity even in the event of disruptions.
Lars Johannisson, CEO of Rack Centre, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, noting that the expansion of the Lagos campus, including the LGS 2 Data Centre, will provide world-class infrastructure for operators, hyperscalers, businesses, and service providers. This will ultimately foster economic growth in Nigeria and the broader West African region.
Rack Centre Lagos already houses over 68 telecommunication carriers, ISPs, and global Tier 1 networks. The LGS 2 Data Centre is designed to be AI-ready, supporting enhanced data processing and storage capabilities crucial for businesses embracing artificial intelligence and machine learning.
