A new tech hub, Darey.io/XTERNS Tech Hub, has been launched in Lagos, aiming to empower Nigerian youths with crucial digital skills, directly addressing the nation’s need to harness its youthful population for economic growth. This initiative aligns with the Nigerian Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy’s focus on fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.

Francis Sani, technical adviser to the minister and programme director of the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Nigeria, emphasized the hub’s role in equipping young Nigerians with the skills needed to thrive in the global digital economy. He highlighted that investing in digital skills and creating an enabling environment for innovation are essential for Nigeria’s future economic success.

Darey.io, led by founder and CEO Dare Oluwafunmilayo, has partnered with the 3MTT initiative to offer free digital skills training to three million Nigerians. The tech hub will serve as a collaborative space for learning, networking, and developing expertise in line with modern workforce demands. The 3MTT program has already enrolled over 100,000 learners, demonstrating the impact of public-private collaboration in advancing economic growth.

Recognizing the importance of both technical and soft skills, Oluwafunmilayo announced the launch of the Dare Oluwafunmilayo Human Capital Foundation. This foundation will provide laptops, stipends, and financial aid to deserving individuals, removing financial barriers to digital education and economic opportunities.

Sani reiterated the ministry’s commitment to implementing policies that support startups, digital skills training, and access to capital for young entrepreneurs. He also called for increased investment in research and development, improved infrastructure, and policies that encourage tech entrepreneurship. The overarching goal is to position Nigeria as a leader in Africa’s digital economy, ensuring the nation is not left behind in the global digital revolution
