Leading stakeholders will gather at the inaugural Electric Vehicles Nigeria Expo (EVN EXPO), scheduled for November 13 and 14, 2025, to present crucial frameworks and roadmaps designed to catalyze the adoption of electric mobility across Nigeria.

The EXPO, which is set to convene at the Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, is expected to draw over 2,500 participants. Attendees will include key figures from the government, private sector, development finance institutions, innovators, investors, and the buying public, providing a comprehensive cross-section of players necessary to drive this national transition. Experts and investors from critical sectors such as real estate, banking, sustainability, and energy will also be in attendance to contribute to the discussion on Nigeria’s clean transportation future.

    Shaping Nigeria’s Mobility Destiny

Speaking ahead of the event, Convener of EVN EXPO, Adekoyejo Abiola, declared that electric mobility is no longer an experiment but a reality central to global conversations around energy security and sustainable industrial policies. Abiola described the adoption of EVs in Nigeria as more than a technological upgrade; it is a platform for economic transformation for consumers, corporations, and cities. He stressed that this presents a unique opportunity to lead West Africa in building an inclusive and climate-resilient transport economy.

The forthcoming expo, he explained, is a vital opportunity to shape Nigeria’s future by helping it own its mobility, control its energy destiny, and write a new story of innovation, inclusion, and independence. The event will serve as a catalytic platform where stakeholders, including knowledge partners like RMI, GreenMax, and NOMAP, will present practical frameworks, roadmaps, and financing models.

Abiola urged stakeholders to ensure the transition works for the informal economy, calling for bold collaborations anchored on three central pillars: financing & infrastructure, innovation, and policy. Embracing e-mobility now is not just a clean transport agenda but a livelihood agenda that will stimulate job creation across manufacturing, construction, logistics, and digital services.

Core Objectives and Government’s Critical Role

Boluwasope Ogboye, Project and Technical Lead for EVN EXPO 2025, revealed that the core objectives of the event include: showcasing cutting-edge EV technologies and infrastructure, driving conversations on financing and policy, mobilizing investment, and strengthening Nigeria’s voice in global sustainability dialogues.

Ridwan Zubair of the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) stressed the critical role of government as the accelerator of Nigeria’s EV future. Zubair noted that EV adoption is essential for economic competitiveness and provides necessary cost savings, especially following the removal of the fuel subsidy. He called on the Federal Government to show leadership by addressing barriers like limited charging infrastructure and high upfront costs, while implementing supportive policies such as fiscal incentives (tax exemptions and loan guarantees) and non-fiscal policies (EV sales mandates). He projected that with strong policies, Nigeria could save up to ₦6.5 trillion and avoid CO₂ emissions annually by 2040, making a 100% EV penetration target by 2060 achievable.

Koye Alaba of GreenMax Capital Group and Jennifer Anya of the Nigeria off-grid market acceleration program (NoMAP) echoed these sentiments, underscoring that infrastructure, financing, and policy gaps remain challenges. However, they affirmed that a strategic roadmap built through investment, innovation, and partnerships—starting with the EVN EXPO—is being built to ensure that EV adoption moves from a luxury to a necessity accessible to all Nigerians.
