Residents of Akute and its surrounding border communities have gained direct access to world-class ICT training following the launch of a new retail center by New Horizons Nigeria.

Strategically positioned to serve a vast catchment area, the newly commissioned facility will cater to students and professionals across Alagbado, Ajuwon, Matogun, Lambe, Ojodu-Berger, Isheri, Giwa, Iju-Ishaga, Ishasi, and Oke-Aro.

For years, distance has been a significant barrier for aspiring tech talent in these areas. This expansion eliminates the need for long-distance travel, bringing internationally recognized programs to the doorsteps of thousands.

The center will offer high-end technical training in critical fields, including:

    • Cybersecurity & CompTIA (Hardware, Network, and Security+)
    • Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Full Stack Development
    • Web Development & Graphics Design

As a franchise of New Horizons International operating in over 90 countries the Nigerian arm continues to dominate the continent’s digital education space. In 2025, the institution was named the Best ICT Training Company by CompTIA in South Africa.

Currently, New Horizons trains over 100,000 students annually across 27 universities and 150 secondary schools, in addition to its work with corporate organizations and government agencies. Certificates obtained from the center are globally recognized, giving graduates a competitive edge in any of the 90 countries where the brand maintains a presence.

Speaking on the expansion, the Founder and CEO of New Horizons Nigeria, Mr. Tim Akano, emphasized that technology is no longer a specialized field but a foundational requirement for all careers.

“In today’s digital economy, virtually 100 percent of jobs require some level of IT skill, regardless of one’s field of study. From healthcare to agriculture and media, technology now drives productivity and competitiveness,” Akano noted.

Mr. Akano also offered strategic advice to young Nigerians considering relocation abroad (Japa). He asserted that acquiring IT skills locally is significantly more affordable than seeking the same training overseas.

“By gaining these skills locally, individuals position themselves for professional roles in global labor markets rather than struggling in unrelated, low-paying jobs. He added that holding globally recognized certifications enhances credibility and employability for Nigerians in the diaspora,” he stated

As of January 2026, New Horizons Nigeria and Mr. Akano have collectively earned over 320 national and international awards. The launch of the Akute center marks a deliberate effort to democratize technology education at the grassroots level, turning the region into a new hub for digital transformation within Ogun State and its environs.
