The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has entered into strategic partnerships with the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), setting a new standard for data governance, ensuring that privacy is woven into the fabric of both federal procurement and state-level administration.
The synergy between these agencies is designed to deliver high-impact results across the Nigerian digital economy. Nigeria enhances its reputation in the global digital ecosystem and fosters an environment of trust, confidence, and credibility by integrating robust data protection standards into the procurement sector.
The partnership with the BPP addresses the critical need to safeguard sensitive government information against unlawful disclosure while treating data protection as a vital pillar of ethical management.
Aligning state-level privacy frameworks through the NGF is expected to significantly boost investor confidence and attract Foreign Direct Investment by creating a unified and secure regulatory environment. A major highlight of the collaboration is a dedicated focus on capacity building, evidenced by the NDPC already providing 50 Virtual Privacy Academy vouchers to BPP staff and planning specialized training for over 453 procurement officers nationwide.
Finally, the collaboration with the NGF ensures that responsible data governance is a nationwide standard rather than just a federal initiative, effectively securing the digital ecosystem at the grassroots level.
Commenting on the collaboration, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, National Commissioner/CEO, NDPC, noted: “Data privacy is a global imperative. The NDPC remains committed to supporting the integration of robust data protection standards within Nigeria’s procurement sector.”
Also, Dr. Abdulateef Shittu, Director-General, NGF, believes that the partnership is a strategic step towards securing Nigeria’s digital ecosystem and advancing responsible data governance at the subnational level.
To translate these agreements into tangible results, the NDPC has established dedicated working groups with both the BPP and the NGF. These groups are tasked with developing actionable frameworks to ensure the swift and effective rollout of privacy protocols across all levels of government.
