Terrahex is stepping up plans to deploy modular high-performance computing infrastructure in Nigeria after receiving its second shipment of ASICs at its US processing hub, with the first batch now being prepared for shipment ahead of a December 2026 go-live.
The equipment forms part of the company’s initial fleet for a 9MW node in southern Nigeria, with Terrahex targeting more than 100MW of computing capacity within the next 24 months.
The company is pursuing an alternative to conventional hyperscale data centres by placing modular computing infrastructure close to underutilised power generation. Its Power-for-Equity model is designed to convert available energy into productive computing capacity.
Terrahex Founder and CEO OluMayowa Ogunnusi said the company wants to demonstrate that Nigeria can participate in the global compute economy without first replicating the economics of conventional hyperscale data centres.
“Nigeria does not need to wait for hyperscale data centre economics before it can participate in the compute economy,” Ogunnusi said.
To support the Nigerian node, Terrahex has ordered medium- and low-voltage equipment alongside air-cooled 40-foot modular containers from Belgian manufacturer Datacubes.
Each container can house up to 356 miners and supports electrical installation of up to 1,300kW. The units will be equipped with filtration, ventilation and monitoring systems to maintain performance under demanding environmental conditions.
Datacubes Founder Toon Craenen said the Niger Delta deployment would be a significant test of the company’s modular infrastructure, particularly because of heat, humidity and dust.
Terrahex Board Chair Patrick J. Sweeney said the combination of secure hardware supply, equipment testing and disciplined execution provides the foundation for the initial 9MW deployment and eventual expansion beyond 100MW.
The company has also secured agreements with energy partners to support its wider deployment pipeline.
