Spotify has launched its audiobook service in Nigeria, giving users access to more than 350,000 titles through its existing music and podcast streaming platform, with a monthly subscription starting at ₦2,300.

The service, which became available on October 14, 2026, allows both Free and Premium users in Nigeria to access audiobooks through a paid add-on called Audiobooks+, expanding the platform’s offerings beyond music and podcasts.

Under the plan, subscribers pay ₦2,300 monthly for 15 hours of audiobook listening, equivalent to about 30 minutes daily. Users who need additional listening time can purchase a 10-hour top-up for ₦2,700 or buy individual titles to keep.

Spotify said the service is designed to help users incorporate storytelling into their daily routines, including commuting, taking lunch breaks, preparing for work and relaxing before bedtime.

The platform’s features include personalised audiobook recommendations on users’ home feeds, automatic bookmarking that allows listeners to continue where they stopped across supported devices, and offline listening for downloaded titles.

Other features include story recaps for selected English-language audiobooks, a sleep timer that automatically stops playback after a set period, and a page-matching tool that enables users to scan a page in a printed book or e-book and jump to the corresponding point in its audio version.

The features are intended to make audiobooks more accessible to users who want to enjoy books while carrying out other activities throughout the day.

To access the service, users are required to update their Spotify app, select the Audiobooks tab or search for a title, and add the Audiobooks+ subscription to their existing Free or Premium account.

Spotify said only the time users spend listening counts towards their monthly allowance, with listening hours resetting at the beginning of each billing cycle.

The company also outlined opportunities for authors and publishers to distribute their works through Spotify for Authors, potentially reaching listeners in more than 180 markets. The distribution arrangement is non-exclusive.

The Nigerian launch comes as digital platforms continue to expand their content offerings to meet changing consumer preferences and provide more ways to access books and other forms of entertainment.

However, Spotify clarified that audiobooks are not included in its Premium subscription in Nigeria, meaning users must pay separately for Audiobooks+, regardless of whether they already have a Free or Premium account.

Additional listening-hour top-ups and individual audiobook purchases attract separate one-time payments, while the monthly Audiobooks+ subscription is a recurring charge. The company noted that catalogue availability and features may vary.
