Huawei Technologies has released an official statement on the recent suspension of its license to use Google’s services such asthe Play Store, Google Maps, Google Drive, Gmail, and YouTube, among others on its devices.

In the statement from Huawei Nigeria media partner, Plexus Media Interlinks Limited, the information and communication technology provider,  noted that it as an unparalleled leader in 5G, it is ready and willing to engage with the US government and come up with effective measures to ensure product security.

It advised that restricting Huawei from doing business in the US will not make the US more secure or stronger; instead, this will only serve to limit the US to inferior yet more expensive alternatives, leaving the US lagging behind in 5G deployment, and eventually harming the interests of US companies and consumers.

In addition, Huawei said it is an unreasonable restriction, which will infringe upon Huawei’s rights and raise other serious legal issues.

    Reuters response to the suspension

Huawei has made substantial contributions to the development and growth of Android around the world. As one of Android’s key global partners, we have worked closely with their open-source platform to develop an ecosystem that has benefitted both users and the industry.

Huawei will continue to provide security updates and after sales services to all existing Huawei and Honor smartphone and tablet products covering those have been sold or still in stock globally.

We will continue to build a safe and sustainable software ecosystem, in order to provide the best experience for all users globally.

    The beginning

The United States President, Donald Trump, has issued an executive order, though, did not mention Huawei by name, which aims to prohibit US companies from using any telecoms equipment manufactured by Huawei.

US president Donald Trump declared a national emergency on cybersecurity, effectively banning Huawei and its affiliates from doing business in the country. As a result, several US-based companies like Intel and Qualcomm, and most importantly Google have announced that they will cut ties with the Shenzen-based smartphone manufacturer.

Those of you using Huawei smartphones be advised that this won’t affect your searches, video downloads and in any way: Google made sure that the handsets that are currently in use will not be the subject of the ban. It may, in turn, make it difficult for Huawei to roll out OS updates in the future.
