Nigeria Tele House, Medallion Communications Limited, last week Friday in Lagos went home with the award of ‘Excellence in Enterprise Data Centre Service’ at the Africa Digital Heroes Awards, organized by the Centre for Cyber Awareness and Development (CECAD).

According to the organizer, Medallion won the award owing to the company’s domestication of Data Centre in Nigeria, where its facility is hosting over 83 local and international service providers, making it the most connected Data Centre in Nigeria.

“After an extensive and exhaustive research, the committee in charge of the Africa Digital Heroes Awards came to the conclusion that the Medallion Data Centre is the most centric and connected in Nigeria, and should be awarded the ‘Excellence in Enterprise Data Centre Service’,” said Bayero Agabi, Executive Director at CECAD.

He argued that the Medallion Data Centre facility has helped operators to localize their content to improve the quality of service to subscribers, and to ensure everybody in the ecosystem from the operator to the subscriber is getting good telecom service delivered to them at affordable prices.

Meanwhile, an excited Chief Executive Officer of Medallion Communications Limited, Mr. Ikechukwu Nnamani, say the award is only a testimony that Medallion’s Data Centre expansion project is gradually yielding results.

“We are happy that the world is noticing what we are doing with regards to Data Centre service in Nigeria. In the last three years, we have started an expansion project, which is accommodating more service providers in other parts of Nigeria. Thus, taking various content providers like Google and Facebook closer to the end users, which has ultimately provided high-quality services without buffering,” he noted.

Today, Medallion Data Cente accommodate over 83 service providers, which include International gateway/submarine cables, GSM operators, CDMA/LTE operators, Fixed line/fixed wireless, long distance providers, metro fiber providers, ISPs, VAS and other content providers.

Apart from Lagos and Abuja, an expansion of the Data Centre to other cities will help end user receive quality service from content providers. The content providers on their part would be able to localised their adverts to specify location and make more revenue. So, it is win-win situation for everybody.
