The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida, has announced that all Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards currently in use across Nigeria have been successfully linked to the National Identification Number (NIN).

Dr. Maida made this disclosure yesterday while addressing security concerns related to telecom services at a two-day colloquium held in Lagos. The event was jointly hosted by the Federal House of Representatives Committee on Communications and the Nigerian Communications Commission.
Responding to questions regarding the security implications of mobile communication, Dr. Maida confidently stated, “As of today, all SIM cards being used in the telecom space have been properly linked to the National Identification Number (NIN).”
He further emphasized that this crucial initiative is already demonstrating positive outcomes and effectively achieving its intended purpose. While Dr. Maida did not elaborate on the specific results being observed, his statement suggests that the SIM-NIN linkage is contributing to enhanced security and potentially aiding in crime prevention and detection.
This announcement marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts by the Nigerian government and the NCC to establish a comprehensive and unified national identity database.
