The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has said it is not within its purview or regulatory mandate to arrest and prosecute Nigerians who are using the Twitter application in the country, despite the temporary suspension by the federal government. “The NCC is a regulator. It is not within our power to arrest or prosecute. We limited ourselves based on the order given to us by the government, which was to instruct the operators to disconnect, which was what we did. The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has directed all Broadcasting Stations in Nigeria to suspend the patronage of Twitter immediately. In a statement signed by its Director-General, Prof Armstrong ldachaba,  NBC said the directive is consequent on the suspension of Twitter operations in Nigeria by the Federal Government over what it described as the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining the corporate existence of Nigeria. Telecom companies in Nigeria have received formal instruction from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) the industry regulator to suspend access to Twitter.
