A recent report by Truecaller has revealed that Nigeria is among the top 20 countries affected by spam calls and SMSes globally. According to the study, the average Truecaller user in Nigeria receives 8.4 spam calls per month, which is 20% higher than last year. A highlight of a 2018 cybersecurity report presented yesterday in Lagos, has shown that 70 percent of companies in Nigeria faced talent shortage of cybersecurity professionals in 2019, even as $800 million was reported to have been lost to cybercrime in 2018. The report, which was presented by Demadiur Systems Limited in partnership with Kenya based Seriamu, also highlighted that there is a skill shortage at senior management and mid-management level with just 3500 cybersecurity skill professionals in Nigeria. The Institute of Information Management (IIM), has proposed to the Federal Government the establishment of a National Information Management Development Agency (NIMDA), which will be tasked with managing information generated by all government agencies. Proposing the establishment of the agency at a news conference in Lagos, IIM recommended that the agency should be separated from the Ministry of Culture, and will ultimately help in managing the Information Lifecycle of data, documents, contents and archives generated by all government agencies. The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), says it has initiated enforcement action against one hundred and twenty-five (125) Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for violation of the directive of the Federal Government issued vide Circular with Ref No. 59736/S.2/C.II/125, issued on 31st August 2018. Based on feedback after its initial launch in September this year, a technology-driven bus sharing solution, Plentywaka says it has redesigned its mobile app, which is an improvement from the beta app to an all-new PlentyWaka app to improve the user experience.
