Canon has celebrated the creative brilliance of Nigerian filmmaker Nora Awolowo by hosting an exclusive, dual-screening event in Lagos for her short film, Racket Queen. The film, shot entirely on the Canon EOS C400 cinema camera, serves as a powerful testament to Awolowo’s visual storytelling finesse and technical mastery.

The screening event was designed not only to showcase Awolowo’s excellence but also to highlight Canon’s ongoing commitment to supporting Africa’s burgeoning filmmaking community with advanced tools.

    • The EOS C400’s Role: The professional cinema camera played a pivotal role in capturing the film’s striking visuals and emotional depth, demonstrating how technology and artistry can come together to elevate filmmaking across the continent.
    • Dual Screenings: Canon hosted a morning media screening, offering journalists from arts, business, and technology sectors a first look at Racket Queen and deeper insights into Awolowo’s production approach. This was followed by an evening industry screening and networking session for filmmakers, peers, and Canon’s creative network, fostering collaboration and innovation.

Soft Launch of the EOS C50: Making Production Accessible

The event also featured the soft launch of Canon’s latest offering: the EOS C50. This new entry-level cinema camera expands Canon’s professional cinema lineup, making high-quality production tools more accessible to a broader base of emerging creators. The compact yet powerful C50 is specifically designed to empower the next generation of filmmakers.

Rashad Ghani, B2C Business Unit Director for Canon Central and North Africa, spoke at the event, underscoring the company’s vision.

“At Canon, we believe in the power of storytelling and the importance of equipping creators with the right tools to express their vision. Our collaboration with Nora on Racket Queen reflects how technology and artistry come together to elevate filmmaking in Africa. We’re proud to continue empowering creators and building a thriving creative community across the region,” Ghani stated.

This partnership with Awolowo aligns with Canon’s Innovation, Customer, and Employee Experience (ICE) strategy, which emphasizes customer empowerment and long-term partnerships. By enabling African filmmakers with cutting-edge imaging technology, Canon solidifies its position as a go-to brand for professional videography in Nigeria and throughout Africa.
