Social media giant, Facebook is making plans to employ approximately 100 people by the end of 2019, who will review the content on its platform in Hausa, Somali, Oromo and Swahili languages in Africa.
This effort, which is in partnership with Samasource, one of the largest digital employers in East Africa and a leading social enterprise is part of continued effort to sustain its commitment to safety and security on the Facebook platform.
“Over the years, we have made significant investments globally, and locally in ensuring that people see the content they want to see, and are aware of what is and isn’t allowed on the platform. That’s why we are making this move to employ 100 people in Africa that will review content in different languages,” said Fazdai Madzingira, Public Policy Associate for content at Facebook.
Madzingira said Facebook wants to be a place where people can express themselves and freely discuss different points of view, whilst ensuring that it remains safe for everyone.
This, he added further highlights Facebook’s commitment to serving the community of people using the platforms across Africa, as well as its commitment to continuing to invest and partner locally across the continent.
