In honour of the Africa Telecommunications Union (ATU) day, which is celebrated annually today, the Managing Director/CEO of Galaxy Backbone (GBB), Prof. Muhammad Bello Abubakar has hailed the Minister of Communications & Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami for championing what is now tagged digital transformation that is currently driving the nation’s Economy.

Prof. Abubakar noted that the theme of this year’s ATU Conference; “POST COVID-19: The Role Of Telecoms/ICT in the Resumption of Socio-economic Activities” is apt and in line with the efforts that have been made in Nigeria through the leadership of Dr. Pantami in ensuring that public sector operations continue despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It was the Minister’s idea at the heat of the pandemic to propose that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) which is the highest decision-making body in the country conduct its meetings virtually using the Galaxy Backbone digital Infrastructure platform. This proposal by the Honourable Minister which was approved by his Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari has recorded a huge success as the FEC has conducted successfully over 22 meetings virtually leveraging the GBB Unified Communications platform,” he said.

The Professor also disclosed that over this period, a lot of young people have been trained with digital skills that is transforming how they work and live and has encouraged them to create new innovation that is transforming the nation and is leading to the attraction of global investors into the country.

Galaxy Backbone, an agency under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Communications & Digital Economy has assured that it will continue to support the efforts of the Minister in ensuring that Nigeria and indeed the whole of the African Telecommunications Union is fast transformed into a leading globally recognized Digital Economy.

GBB will continue to innovate and stay focused in its role as the Digital & Network Communications platform implementing the vision of Dr. Pantami to build a formidable digital Economy in Nigeria.
