Interswitch, one of Africa’s leading integrated payments and digital commerce companies, is solidifying its role as a key partner in public sector transformation by driving significant strides in revenue optimization and financial transparency across both Nigeria and Kenya.

In Nigeria, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has officially accredited Interswitch as an Access Point Provider and System Integrator for the nation’s mandatory e-invoicing system. This system, part of the Monitoring, Billing, and Settlement (MBS) platform, went live on August 1, 2025, for large taxpayers with an annual turnover exceeding ₦5 billion.

The initiative is a crucial step in combating tax evasion, enhancing transaction transparency, and boosting national revenue collection. The MBS platform serves as a central hub for validating invoices in real time, capturing essential transaction details and replacing traditional paper documents.

Interswitch’s accreditation means businesses can now access a fully compliant, secure e-invoicing solution that connects directly to the FIRS platform. This not only automates workflows and reduces errors but also provides real-time reporting for more accurate tax submissions.

This recent milestone in Nigeria follows a similar success in Kenya. In 2024, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) selected Interswitch as a technology partner for its electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS). Through this partnership, Interswitch provides businesses with tailored hardware and software solutions to meet Kenya’s e-invoicing requirements. This dual success highlights Interswitch’s commitment to helping governments and corporations modernize their financial ecosystems across the African continent.

Muyiwa Asagba, Managing Director for Commercial Inclusion at Interswitch Group, emphasized the company’s mission extends beyond just compliance. “We are pleased to be recognized by both FIRS and KRA as a trusted technology partner. These accreditations reaffirm Interswitch’s commitment to delivering innovative, business-centric solutions that not only meet compliance requirements but also unlock operational value for our customers,” he said.

Asagba noted that the e-invoicing directives present opportunities for a fundamental transformation. “This is about transforming the way businesses and governments interact, driving transparency, and enabling more efficient revenue management across the continent.”

Interswitch’s influence in the public sector continues to grow. The company recently secured approval from Nigeria’s National Pension Commission (PenCom) to provide a platform that simplifies pension remittances for corporations. By combining innovation, security, and deep market expertise, Interswitch is cementing its role as a trusted partner, empowering governments and organizations to achieve greater efficiency, transparency, and competitiveness in an increasingly digital economy.
