Kaspersky has introduced a powerful new feature in its Kaspersky for Android mobile app: Notification Protection. This tool is designed to provide the next level of anti-phishing defense by proactively scanning messengers and SMS alerts for malicious links.
When activated, Notification Protection identifies and removes scam and suspicious links directly within your mobile notifications, stopping phishing attempts before you even open the app. The feature has already been a success, with over 166,000 users activating it and proving its efficiency in every case. Since its technical launch, it has prevented users from clicking on more than 3,500 malicious links.
In the first half of 2025, Kaspersky’s existing anti-phishing features blocked over 2 million attempts to click on phishing or scam links on Android devices worldwide.
According to Kaspersky’s latest phishing report, the threat is escalating as AI tools now enable highly personalized phishing attacks via messaging apps. This increases the danger level and makes these scams harder for users to track and spot.
“Every year, we see the increase in the number of phishing attacks and scams. Attackers actively use new channels, making the scam more targeted and difficult to recognize,” comments Marina Titova, Vice President, Consumer Business at Kaspersky. “It’s very easy to lose your guard in a message flow and click on a malicious link… The new Notification Protection feature… is aimed at eliminating this potential risk and alerting our customers about this hidden danger.”
Notification Protection significantly enhances Kaspersky’s existing multi-layer defense, which ensures every link a user opens on their device is secure:
- Safe Browsing: The first line of protection, checking URLs in browsers and warning users about potential phishing sites.
- Safe Messaging: Detects malicious links inside popular messenger apps, like Telegram, WhatsApp, and Viber, and shows a pop-up warning directly within the application.
- Notification Protection (NEW): Analyzes incoming notifications across all apps, including messengers and SMS, to identify and remove scam and suspicious links even before the user opens the app.
This functionality works continuously, even with the screen off or in “Do Not Disturb” mode, ensuring uninterrupted protection. While the feature won’t work if notifications from a specific chat are disabled, the Safe Messaging feature remains active inside the app to catch malicious links.
Kaspersky’s anti-phishing protection is amplified by advanced technology solutions, including machine learning-based algorithms:
- Optical Character Recognition (OCR) recognizes malicious text hidden inside images on phishing sites or in messengers.
- A patented machine learning model is continuously updated based on examples of multiple phishing and legitimate sites.
The Notification Protection feature is available now in the latest version of Kaspersky for Android.
To access this functionality, users need to take two simple steps:
- Open the Kaspersky for Android menu: All features section Safe Messaging turn on Check Notifications.
- Grant Kaspersky access to your notifications and enable accessibility.
