In a keynote address at the DigiVation Future Summit and Awards, the Director General/CEO of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, emphasized the critical role of digital identity in shaping the future of governance and fostering innovation in Nigeria.

“A secure, reliable, and inclusive digital identity system is fundamental to effective governance,” Coker-Odusote stated, stressing that it empowers citizens to access essential services, exercise their rights, and participate fully in the digital economy.

NIMC has made significant strides in enhancing Nigeria’s digital identity ecosystem, leveraging advanced technologies to ensure every Nigerian has a unique, secure identity. The commission is committed to ensuring no citizen is left behind in the country’s digital transformation.

Beyond technology, Coker-Odusote emphasized the importance of people-centric innovation. “Innovation is not just about technology; it’s about empowering individuals, communities, and businesses. At NIMC, we have placed people at the heart of our innovation strategy,” she added.

The commission has focused on developing user-friendly, inclusive solutions tailored to the needs of Nigeria’s diverse population. Through strategic programs, NIMC has expanded its reach to underserved communities, ensuring access to digital identity services.

Additionally, the commission is collaborating with private sector partners to promote financial inclusion, improve service delivery, and create new economic opportunities.
