A gathering of technology experts at the Africa Tech Alliance Forum (AfriTECH 4.0) recently illuminated the transformative potential of blockchain, AI, and e-commerce in propelling Africa’s economic growth.

Blockchain and AI: A Digital Revolution

Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), emphasized Africa’s unique position to harness the power of blockchain and AI. With a burgeoning youth population and widespread mobile penetration, the continent is ripe for digital transformation.

“Blockchain and AI offer unparalleled opportunities to propel Africa into the future as a leader in the global digital economy,” Abdullahi stated. He outlined how blockchain can revolutionize sectors like finance, governance, and property rights, particularly in regions underserved by traditional financial institutions.

    The Rise of E-commerce

Biram Fall, Regional General Manager of QNET Sub-Saharan Africa, highlighted the immense potential of e-commerce in driving financial inclusion. With over 350 million unbanked adults, Africa presents a vast market for digital solutions.

“Financial inclusion transforms lives by providing essential financial tools like savings accounts, credit, and insurance, which foster economic independence,” Fall explained. QNET’s initiatives, such as the “Fit Green” financial literacy program, empower young Africans to become entrepreneurs and leverage e-commerce for financial growth.

    Building a Digital Infrastructure

Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, Managing Director/CEO of Galaxy Backbone, underscored the importance of robust digital infrastructure in fueling Africa’s economic transformation.

“Technology has the potential to redefine Africa’s economic trajectory,” Adeyanju noted. Galaxy Backbone is committed to building the foundational digital infrastructure that supports government services, businesses, and communities across Nigeria.

    Empowering the Digital Economy

Ebehijie Momoh, CEO of AfriGoPay Financial Services Limited, emphasized the role of digital payments in driving financial inclusion. Nigeria’s growing digital economy, coupled with initiatives like the AfriGo card, is accelerating cashless transactions and reducing financial barriers.

As AfriTECH 4.0 concluded, it was clear that the future of Africa is digital. By embracing emerging technologies and fostering innovation, the continent has the potential to unlock unprecedented economic growth and social progress.
