The Chief Executive Officer of Google, Mr. Sundar Pichai on Monday made clarifications on fake news and political bias.

He said the Internet giant has a core principle of running away from political bias by maintaining privacy and security, which he declared are essential parts of Google’s mission. “We are committed to working with governments to make sure the world is a safe place,” he said in a remark on Monday.

He noted that Google works hard to ensure the integrity of its products, and put a number of checks and balances in place to ensure they continue to live up to its standards. He also emphasised that users look up to Google to provide accurate trusted information.

This clarification is coming on the heel of criticism on issues around political bias, data security and Google’s domination of internet search. The President of the United State of America, Donald Trump had earlier this year claimed that Google operates with a political agenda that suppresses conservative voices.
