    Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs commends Huawei for contribution to Nigeria, collaborates to provide educational materials to schools in Enugu

    The Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, recently collaborated with Huawei Nigeria to provide basic education materials which can aid effective learning to five schools in Eke, Enugu state, Nigeria.

    While at it, the Minister commended Huawei for the conscious and continuous efforts to support the development of Nigeria, especially through investing in education, talent cultivation and knowledge transfer. He was delighted to have a global leading ICT infrastructure provider collaborate with him to meet the needs of students all the way in Eke local government of Enugu state.

    While speaking on the importance of education to secure a bright future, the Minister told the students of the beneficiary schools to see China as a good example of what education combined with hard work and consistency can achieve under a period of time. In less than 50 years, China has become a first-world nation, producing some of the best experts in different fields.

    Mr. Kelvin Yang, the Deputy Managing Director (DMD) of Huawei Nigeria stated that Huawei has a long-standing cordial relationship with Nigeria and is committed to making more impact in Nigeria. According to the DMD, “Huawei has been operating in Nigeria for 21 years and has become a family member to Nigeria.” He also mentioned that Huawei as a company is not just in Nigeria to do business but to support Nigeria in bridging the digital gap and cultivating local talents.

    HuaweiMr. Yang encouraged the students to keep their focus on their dreams. He said to them “I can say that the determination of our Nigerian students is gradually positioning Nigeria on the global map for outstanding performance. In 2020, under the Huawei global ICT competition, Nigerian students team won 1st place for cloud computing and AI technology worldwide.”

    Speaking on Huawei’s plans to contribute more to Nigeria through education, Mr. Yang stated that “in the next 3 years, Huawei plans to train 30,000 students and engineers in ICT in Nigeria. So far, the company has trained over 17,000 students and 20,000 telecommunications engineers.”

    The Minister, Mr. Onyeama, responded by stating that he cannot thank Huawei enough for the great support. He also mentioned that there will be more collaborations. According to him, “this is just the beginning…we will continue to do our best to ensure that we make education conducive and easier for you.”
