The Nigerian Presidency has highlighted the importance of the upcoming multipurpose ID card issued by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). This new card is designed to revolutionize how Nigerians interact with government services, financial institutions, and other digital platforms.

The NIMC, in partnership with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigeria Inter-bank Settlement System (NIBSS), is working to ensure the widespread adoption of this multipurpose ID card. By empowering Nigerians with a secure and convenient digital identity, the government aims to drive economic growth, improve public services, and foster a more digitally inclusive society.

Key Benefits of the NIMC Multipurpose ID Card:

    • Enhanced Access to Government Services: The card will streamline access to government interventions and programs, ensuring transparency and efficiency in the delivery of public services.
    • Improved Financial Inclusion: Cardholders will be able to access loans from various financial institutions, including government-backed schemes. The card will feature a verifiable credit score based on past financial records, facilitating easier access to credit.
    • Digital Identity Verification: The card will serve as a reliable form of digital identification, simplifying processes such as passport applications, driver’s license renewals, and other bureaucratic procedures.
    • E-Naira Compatibility: The card will be compatible with Nigeria’s digital currency, the eNaira, enabling seamless digital transactions.
