Digital Realty, a global leader in cloud- and carrier-neutral data center, colocation, and interconnection solutions, today announced a significant expansion of its ServiceFabric interconnection platform into Nigeria. This strategic move brings low-latency, high-performance connectivity directly to enterprises within the region and beyond through native deployments at Digital Realty’s LOS1 and LOS2 facilities in Lagos.

This expansion underscores Digital Realty’s dedication to fostering seamless global interconnectivity for businesses. Nigerian enterprises will now gain the power to connect with partners, clouds, and networks whenever and wherever they need, facilitated by a secure, software-defined interconnection platform. The introduction of ServiceFabric® in Lagos directly addresses the increasing demand for hybrid IT and multi-cloud connectivity in the rapidly growing African digital landscape.

This deployment is a crucial step in Digital Realty’s broader vision for supporting digital transformation across Africa, with further ServiceFabric® expansions across the continent already in the pipeline. These future access points will empower even more enterprises to achieve frictionless interconnection.

The timing of this launch is particularly significant, coinciding with a projected surge in Africa’s digital transformation market, expected to reach USD 46 billion by 2029 from approximately USD 23 billion in 2024, representing a robust 15% CAGR. Nigeria’s proactive national initiatives, such as the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) program and the Broadband Alliance, highlight the nation’s commitment to strengthening digital skills and infrastructure, solidifying its pivotal role in Africa’s digital future.

Chris Sharp, Chief Technology Officer at Digital Realty, emphasized the importance of this development, stating, “The launch of ServiceFabric® in Nigeria marks a significant milestone in our mission to build a truly globally connected digital economy. By deploying ServiceFabric® natively in our Lagos facilities, we are ensuring businesses in Nigeria have access to the same best-in-class interconnection capabilities as enterprises in major digital hubs around the world.”

Engineer Ikechukwu Nnamani, Managing Director of Digital Realty Nigeria, further elaborated on the local impact: “The launch of ServiceFabric® in Nigeria is a direct response to the Federal Government’s call for the availability of global infrastructure in the country, thereby enhancing the localization of content and bringing global platforms into the Nigerian ICT ecosystem. Direct connectivity to the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN) will enable IXPN to peer with other global exchanges, ultimately enhancing the quality of service delivery for Nigerian companies and service providers.”

ServiceFabric® already boasts a significant global presence, natively available in over 160 Digital Realty facilities and extending its reach to over 500 third-party facilities through strategic partnerships with industry leaders like Megaport and Console Connect. These collaborations create a truly global, interconnected ecosystem for enterprises.

As a next-generation interconnection solution, ServiceFabric® is engineered to simplify and streamline connectivity between enterprises, cloud providers, and network partners. Its integration with Digital Realty’s Private AI Exchange (AIPx) also positions it to facilitate secure and efficient AI workload connectivity, future-proofing enterprise infrastructure.

The expansion of ServiceFabric® to Nigeria delivers four key benefits:

    • Seamless multi-cloud connectivity: Nigerian businesses gain direct and secure access to major cloud providers, leveraging over 280 global cloud on-ramps for optimized performance and security.
    • Global reach, local performance: Enterprises in Nigeria can now connect with business partners and digital services across PlatformDIGITAL®, Digital Realty’s extensive global data center platform encompassing over 300 facilities across more than 50 cities in 25+ countries.
    • Scalability & flexibility: Businesses can dynamically scale their interconnection needs, adapting to evolving IT and network demands with ease.
    • Enhanced security & reliability: The private, software-defined platform minimizes exposure to public internet risks and significantly improves network resilience.
