The President of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) Prof. Adesola Aderounmu, has insisted that the only sure way to national development for countries like Nigeria, is to harp on to technology innovations.

The Professor of Computer engineering at the Obafemi Awolowo University, who was expressing his thoughts on innovation via a Facebook post, noted that encouraging and promoting innovations, especially for the youths is central to  National Development via human capacity development and would help Nigeria increase its competitive advantage in the global economy.

“I am a strong proponent of growing our economy by deploying local talents and resources to maximal use, by creating the right environment for young minds to deploy their talents, skills and technical prowess, we can create a culture of innovation that would become the lifeblood of the Nigerian economy in the near future,” he said.

He urged the government at all levels to imbibe the culture of boosting innovative ideas, saying he has followed the model over the years, and it has yielded and still yielding brilliant results. “This has further fuelled my conviction that the success of the Nigerian project hinges largely on technological innovation,” he added.

As quoted by Leon Kass, an American physician, scientist, educator and public intellectual, technological innovation is indeed important to economic growth and the enhancement of human possibilities.
