In the modern era, where data breaches and privacy issues are prevalent, software security is a must-have, rather than exclusively a nice-to-have. Simply testing for problems at the end of development is no longer sufficient. Current products, especially those dealing with private info, require a security and privacy plan right from the outset. This shift has created a type of software engineering where security is a basic part of the design, and privacy is a key feature.

This shift suggests we need engineers who can do more than just use firewalls and encryption. They must build security and privacy into the product itself. Hameed Abdulrahaman, a senior software engineer, is great at this kind of work. He builds trust and honesty into his systems, ensuring they are secure, scalable, while upholding user data privacy.

Hameed is a proponent of DevSecOps. He advocates for security to be included in every part of software development, right from the initial concept until continuous revisions. He accomplishes this with automated security checks, uninterrupted monitoring, and tools designed to include everyone within security matters, not just a specific group. He employs threat modeling to find possible threats early on. By thinking like a potential attacker, he builds security into the product’s design from the start.

Besides building a secure base, Hameed explores new privacy technologies. He works with homomorphic encryption, which allows people to perform computations on encrypted data without decrypting it. Imagine a post office sorting packages in a locked truck without seeing the contents. This is useful for studying private data, like medical records or financial info, without exposing the raw data.

He also uses methods to protect user data on a large scale. Differential privacy is a technique to share aggregated information about data and simultaneously assuring no one can identify an individual’s data. This is important for apps that analyze traffic and need to report traffic jams without showing any driver’s location. Hameed also explores secure multiparty computation (SMPC), which enables multiple groups to jointly work on their private data without revealing it to each other. For instance, banks could use SMPC to calculate the total risk of a portfolio without showing their proprietary data to anyone else.

Hameed’s work highlights that good engineering isn’t just about preventing attacks. It’s about enabling new business approaches that focus on privacy first. His knowledge of these methods lets his company handle private data safely. He makes sure his products follow the rules and establish credibility with customers, while still developing novel solutions. His leadership proves that security and privacy help growth, not stop it.

Hameed Abdulrahaman’s work proves that an engineer is not just a builder, but a builder of trust. He makes sure his company’s products are fast and useful, and also secure enough to protect user data and privacy, which gives his company an advantage in a world that values privacy.
