Apple has unveiled its highly anticipated iPhone 17 lineup at a keynote event at the Steve Jobs Theater, introducing a new family of smartphones that push the boundaries of design, performance and computational photography.

The company’s latest release features a redesigned look, a new processor and a significant leap forward in camera technology across all models.

At the center of the announcement was the introduction of the new iPhone Air, which replaces the Plus model and stands as Apple’s thinnest smartphone ever, measuring just 5.5mm at its thinnest point.

The iPhone Air features a 6.6-inch display and a single, powerful 48MP rear camera. Its ultra-slim profile is made possible by a redesigned internal layout and a new custom Apple Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip.

The standard iPhone 17 received a substantial upgrade, now sporting a larger 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion technology, a first for a non-Pro model. The phone’s camera system has also been completely revamped, with a new vertical pill-shaped camera bump housing a dual-48MP camera setup. On the front, the new Center Stage selfie camera with an 18MP sensor automatically keeps you centered in the frame during video calls, even as you move around.

For professionals and enthusiasts, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max deliver groundbreaking performance. These models are powered by the new A19 Pro chipset, which Apple claims provides MacBook Pro levels of compute in an iPhone.

The Pro models also feature a new thermal management system with a vapor chamber, ensuring sustained high performance without overheating. The camera system on the Pro models is a major leap, with a 48MP ultrawide and a new 4x Fusion Telephoto system offering up to 8x optical zoom.

Apple also announced that all iPhone 17 models will come with a starting storage of 256GB, doubling the entry-level capacity from the previous generation. The devices will launch with iOS 26, bringing a host of new features, including advanced on-device AI capabilities. Pre-orders for the new lineup begin on Friday, September 12, with availability starting a week later on Friday, September 19. The iPhone 17 is priced from $899, with the iPhone Air starting at $1,133, and the Pro models at $1,499 and $1,999, respectively.
