The digital landscape in Nigeria is shifting from potential to prosperity. TeKnowledge, a global leader in technology services, has officially announced the second phase of its partnership with Microsoft to drive the AI National Skilling Initiative.

While the partnership represents a massive technical collaboration, the real story lies in the tangible benefits for the Nigerian workforce: jobs, innovation and global competitiveness.

This initiative equips Nigerians with the tools to thrive in a modern economy rather than just raising awareness. The programme delivers value through targeted skill acquisition by training 10,000 participants in high-demand AI skills specifically for youth, women, developers, and business leaders during Phase 2.

It also facilitates direct job placement by hosting a Career Fair that connects graduates with employers, a strategy that has already produced immediate job offers and clear employment pathways. Entrepreneurs and developers receive support through initiatives like the Agentic AI Hackathon, where participants have already built world-class tools for document verification and fraud detection within the local fintech sector. Finally, the programme ensures inclusive reach by partnering with the National Youth Service Corps and various universities to provide AI literacy to Nigerians across different regions and backgrounds.

The impact of this partnership is already visible across the country. Following the success of the 2025 groundwork, the initiative has reached more than 50,000 Nigerians with foundational AI knowledge. Over 3,000 technical experts have earned official Microsoft AI certifications through the programme. Additionally, the initiative works in tandem with the government’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme to ensure a coordinated boost to national capacity.

With a population of over 200 million and a vibrant youth demographic, AI represents a massive economic opportunity for Nigeria.

“Nigeria stands at a defining moment. We are not simply delivering programmes; we are strengthening Nigeria’s capacity to compete in an AI-powered global economy,” Olugbolahan Olusanya, Territory Director for Africa, TeKnowledge.

Olatomiwa Williams, Chief Growth and AI Officer at Microsoft MEA, echoed this sentiment, noting that Nigeria is positioned to be a “builder and co-creator” in the global AI economy rather than just a participant.

The programme uses a hybrid delivery model, combining virtual instruction with hands-on, in-person projects. This allows for flexibility while ensuring participants gain deep, technical expertise that is “applied” rather than just theoretical.

By prioritizing responsible AI adoption and inclusive training, TeKnowledge and Microsoft are ensuring that the Nigerian workforce isn’t just ready for the future—they are the ones building it.
