Nigeria’s Telecom House, Medallion Communications Limited has disclosed that it is presently hosting the highest number of operators both local and international, who are riding on its Data Centre infrastructure to provide telecom services to subscribers in Nigeria.

The Chief Executive Officer of Medallion, Mr. Ikechukwu Nnamani disclosed this to ITPulse at the company’s corporate headquarters in Lagos, while x-raying the business activities of Medallion in 2018.

According to Nnamani, despite some challenges, which he described as normal in business, 2018 has been a great year, especially for Medallion’s Data Centre business, which is the most connected in Nigeria, with over 83 service providers, including International gateway/submarine cables, GSM operators, CDMA/LTE operators, Fixed line/fixed wireless, long distance providers, metro fiber providers, ISPs, VAS and other content providers.

“If you look at the numbers, there is no other Data Centre operator in Nigeria that matches our subscriber base in terms of clients, who are both local and international. The fact that the highest number of operators is comfortable doing business with us, shows that our operations are not below standard,” he explained.

He revealed that going into 2019, Medallion plans to complete its Data Centre expansion project, which it has started in 2018.

The expansion project, according to Nnamani is to create an  additional Data Centre in six cities across Nigeria, emphasizing that the aim is to help operators localize their content at the states and regional basis.

“Our core goal to embark on massive expansion of infrastructure across the country to get operators localize their content. That will improve the quality of service to subscribers and ensure everybody in the ecosystem from the operator to the subscriber is getting good telecom service delivered to them at affordable prices,” he added.

Apart from Lagos and Abuja, other cities Medallion Data Centre will go live soon include Enugu, Port-Harcourt, Ibadan, Kano and Asaba. The essence is to accommodate more service providers in other parts of Nigeria.
