Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has given Galaxy Backbone Limited the permission to upgrade all ICT Infrastructure of Federal Government Ministries, Departments & Agencies in a move to boost the provision of Local Area Network (LAN) and other digital services.
The approval, which was announced today at the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting, is in line with ensuring that Nigeria is transformed into a Digital nation and was pursued vigorously by the Minister of Communications & Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami in his strides to make Nigeria a digital nation in the near future.
Galaxy Backbone (GBB), an agency under the Federal Ministry of Communications & Digital Economy, is the Digital, Network & Shared services provider to the government. GBB has over the past 10 years provided connectivity and network services to government institutions and has generally met the connectivity and digital services needs of these institutions. With this approval by FEC, GBB’s quality of service will greatly improve and the challenges around Local Area Network (LAN) which have for too long constituted a major impediment for these Agencies’ e-governance and digital transformation will now be dealt with.
