Africa’s Business Heroes (ABH) has announced the top 50 finalists for its 2024 prize competition. The annual competition, backed by the Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Philanthropy, celebrates and supports exceptional African entrepreneurs.
This year, a record-breaking 20,000 applications poured in from across the continent, showcasing Africa’s burgeoning entrepreneurial spirit. The top 50 finalists represent a diverse cross-section of businesses, with a notable increase in female and North African participation.
“We are thrilled to recognize the talent and potential of these 50 extraordinary entrepreneurs. Their innovative solutions are driving positive change across the continent,” said Zahra Baitie-Boateng, Managing Director, Africa, Africa’s Business Heroes Initiative.
Beyond the coveted $1.5 million prize pool, ABH offers finalists comprehensive support, including mentorship, training, and networking opportunities. The top 50 will participate in a virtual boot camp featuring industry experts, including Dorcas Rutunda of ITM Africa Ltd., ABH Judge Ozan Sonmez, and entrepreneur Guillaume Darnaudet.
ABH is also expanding its reach with the launch of entrepreneurial hubs in major African cities. These hubs will serve as centers for collaboration, mentorship, and resource sharing for the growing community of ABH alumni.
The top 50 finalists will now compete for a spot in the top 20, which will be announced in August. These 20 finalists will advance to the semi-finals in Cairo, Egypt. The final 10 will pitch their businesses at the grand finale in Kigali, Rwanda, in December.
With a growing community, increased diversity, and expanded support, ABH continues to be a driving force in the African entrepreneurial ecosystem.
