The organizers of the prestigious Africa Beacon of ICT (BoICT) Lectures and Awards have announced that Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), will deliver the keynote lecture at this year’s landmark 17th edition.
The organizers also confirmed Dr. Maida as the Special Guest of Honour for the event.
Widely regarded as the “Oscars” of Nigeria’s ICT industry, the annual event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the Four Points by Sheraton in Lagos.
According to Ken Nwogbo, Editor-in-Chief of Nigeria Communications Week (the event’s organizer), this year’s gathering is themed as the “Digital Transformation Edition.”
The Africa BoICT Lecture is designed to explore strategic efforts to elevate Nigeria on the global technology map. It also serves as a premier platform to recognize and celebrate standout organizations and individuals in the ICT and banking sectors who have significantly driven the digital transformation of the economy.
“Dr. Maida actively oversees the regulation, development, and strategic direction of the Nigerian telecommunications industry. His administration at the NCC is championing initiatives to improve telecom consumer experiences, enhance infrastructure, and foster critical collaborations—such as partnering with the Central Bank of Nigeria to protect citizens from financial fraud,” Nwogbo stated.
Dr. Maida brings a wealth of international expertise and a proven track record to the podium, backed by over 15 years of multi-functional experience across FinTech, Telecoms, and Enterprise Technology.
By delivering this year’s lecture, Dr. Maida joins an elite roster of past distinguished speakers and dignitaries. This notable group includes Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, the former Executive Vice-Chairman of the NCC, and Dr. Isa Pantami, the former Director-General of NITDA. Also among the past guests are Uche Orji, the former MD/CEO of the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), and Engr. Yomi Bolarinwa, the former Director-General of the NBC. The prestigious lineup is completed by John Obaro, CEO and Founder of SystemSpecs, and Dr. Jean Luc Fort, CEO of OR System France.
The ultimate high point of the five-star evening will be the conferment of the BoICT Awards, honoring the companies and visionaries making monumental contributions to the growth of technology across Nigeria and the broader African continent.
