The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is proud to announce the launch of iHatch Cohort 4. This groundbreaking initiative will supercharge Nigeria’s burgeoning startup ecosystem, propelling it towards a vibrant future.

Launched in October 2024 and running through January 2025, iHatch Cohort 4 empowers 185 startups and 37 innovation hubs across Nigeria. We provide the critical resources needed to scale and conquer local and global markets.

iHatch Cohort 4 is a cornerstone of NITDA’s Digital Economy Policy, which focuses on fostering a culture of entrepreneurship, driving economic growth, and creating employment opportunities.

NITDA aims to equip startups with tailored mentorship, training, and investment readiness support.

The iHatch Advantage: A Dual Approach

The iHatch program stands out for its comprehensive support structure that benefits both startups and innovation hubs nationwide. This two-pronged approach ensures:

    • Startup Success: Startups gain the tools to refine their business models and develop scalable products that solve real-world problems.
    • Hub Excellence: Innovation hubs receive training to become sustainable incubators, providing local entrepreneurs with mentorship, facilities, networking opportunities, and access to funding.

Victoria Fabunmi, National Coordinator of the Office of Nigerian Digital Innovation, emphasizes the program’s impact: “iHatch Cohort 4 will be a game-changer for Nigeria’s startup ecosystem. We’re equipping innovators with the knowledge, resources, and funding they need to transform their ideas into impactful businesses. Through our partnership with JICA and local innovation hubs, we’re building a more inclusive and thriving digital economy in Nigeria.”

    Program Highlights:

    • Nationwide Reach: Empowering startups from all 36 states and the FCT, ensuring equitable access to resources and opportunities.
    • Sectoral Focus: Tailored support for high-impact sectors like fintech, agritech, healthtech, logistics, edtech, and civic tech, fostering innovation and scalability.
    • Hub Capacity Building: Training innovation hubs to effectively support startups through mentorship, facilities, networking, funding access, and fostering international partnerships for hub managers.
    • Demo Day and Investment Opportunities: Startups pitch their business ideas to investors, corporations, and ecosystem stakeholders at a Demo Day, aiming to secure funding and partnerships.

    Measurable Goals:

    • Incorporation: 90% of startups will be registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) by program completion.
    • Minimum Viable Product (MVP) Development: 80% of startups will develop an MVP ready for market testing.
    • Investment & Partnerships: 30% of startups will secure investment from investors, grants, or partnerships facilitated by the program.
    • Job Creation: 1,000 direct and indirect jobs will be created through the startup and hub ecosystem.
    • Sustainable Growth: 70% of startups will remain operational 6 months after the program, demonstrating long-term success.

    Why iHatch Cohort 4 Matters:

Nigeria is poised to become a leading force in Africa’s digital transformation. iHatch Cohort 4 directly aligns with Nigeria’s National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS), which prioritizes building a strong knowledge economy and nurturing innovation-driven enterprises (IDEs).

By empowering both startups and hubs, the program will catalyze economic diversification, job creation, and the development of technology-driven solutions that address local challenges and contribute to global competitiveness. This initiative is also a direct contribution to the Nigerian Startup Act, fostering an environment where entrepreneurship can flourish.

    Call to Action:

Applications for startups and innovation hubs are now open! We encourage passionate innovators and ecosystem builders committed to scaling sustainable solutions in Nigeria to apply through the official iHatch website: programs.startup.gov.ng/ihatch
