Mr. Olusola Teniola has been returned unopposed as the President of the Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), in yesterday National Executive Council election held in Lagos.
Meaning, Olusola who has served one term will serve another one term of two years starting from yesterday.
After the election, Teniola thanked the members of the association for the confidence reposed in him. He said the new NEC will work towards leading ATCON to advocate fairly for its members.
Speaking on what the new NEC intends to do, Teniola said digitizing the association’s secretariat , coordinating processes for erecting a befitting secretariat and intensify ongoing activities of the Association would be a priority.
“ATCON will accelerate its advocacy for better operating environment for member companies, especially in the area of fibre optic cable cuts in major cities. We will enhance our engagements with the affected States,” he promised.
Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of Medallion Communications, Mr. Ikechukwu Nnamani and the Chief Executive Officer of eStream Networks, Mr. Muyiwa Ogungboye were elected as 1st and 2nd Vice Presidents respectively.
Engineer Ikechukwu Nnamani contested alongside the immediate past First Vice President, Dr. Anthony Nwosu and Mr. Ibrahim Dikko, while Mr. Muyiwa Ogungboye emerged winner after Mr. David Roberts, who was formerly the National Pubilicty Secretary for two terms , then National Secretary for two terms, stepped down for him.
In his brief acceptance speech, Nnamani said that ATCON will work towards bridging the information gap, especially with regards to excessive taxes and charges by States, which he described as huge impediments to investments in the sector.
Nnamani argues that it appears State officials have not realised the importance of telecom infrastructures in their respective State, hence the case of Right of Way (RoW) has lingered.
“For me, ATCON is the shock absorber for the members, hence, we will do everything possible to defend and amplify their voices for a better business environment,” he assured.
