The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) last week told Nigerians that it has completely deactivated all unregistered SIM cards from the network of all mobile operators, contrary to reports by a section of the media, suggesting that nothing has been done with respect to the issue of improperly-registered SIM cards. “By our records, all improperly-registered Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) cards across Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) in Nigeria have been completely deactivated,” the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, has said in Abuja. The Industry Consumer Advisory Forum (ICAF) has called on the National Assembly to speedily pass the Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) Bill into law as the survival of the survival and substainability of the Nigerian telecom industry depends on the Bill. Stanbic IBTC Holdings PLC, a member of Standard Bank Group, has declared a profit after tax of N75 billion in its full-year audited group results for 2019. This represents an increase over its year-end 2018 profit after tax, which was N74.4 billion. Profit before tax for the year ended December 31, 2019, was N90.9 billion, representing a 3 percent increase over 2018 figures which stood at N88.2 billion. Technology deals database accessed by GlobalData has shown that a whopping $42.98billion deals were recorded in January 2020 across the world, showing an increase of 11.9 percent over the previous month and a drop of 7.8 percent when compared with the last 12-month average of $46.59billion. In the last 24 hours, SophosLabs has uncovered a new email spam attack targeting Italians with a document containing a macro loaded with Trickbot malware. The email takes advantage of COVID-19 fears by offering up a clickable document that allegedly includes a list of precautions to take to prevent infection. Unfortunately, the document is weaponized.
