Latest Internet subscription statistics released by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for the month of June has shown that Globacom gained more subscribers than any other network operator. Though, it was a difficult month for the industry generally, as the total number of internet subscribers dropped by a whopping 332,338 from 122,624,417 in May to 122,292,079 in June, Globacom gained a total of 196,816, moving from 28,825,533 data subscribers in May to 29,022,349 in June. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has assured telecom subscribers in the country that it is on top of the interconnect debt issues and is handling it delicately within the purview of the regulatory provisions to ensure the quality of experience (QoE) is not acutely affected. A Cyber security expert, Mr. Remi Afon, has faulted the move by the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) to charge Nigerians, who make online payments via bank cards 5percent Value Added Tax.
