Some key sectors have been identified to benefit the most from 5G Network, which has been forecast to contribute $2.2 trillion to the global economy over the next 15 years. These sectors, according to GSMA Mobile Economy report are manufacturing, utilities, and professional and financial services. Yesterday, Nigeria’s submarine cable owner, MainOne announced a partnership deal with Facebook that will the two companies putting up a metro fiber infrastructure project in two states of Nigeria’s Ogun and Edo. What this means is that, the project, which is part of Facebook’s effort to connect more people to broadband internet in Nigeria will provide connectivity to more than 1,000,000 people in Benin City, Abeokuta, Sagamu and 10 other towns by connecting mobile operators’ base stations, Internet Service providers, Points of presence (POPs), and public locations including schools and hospitals.   A Mobile Economy report by the GSMA has revealed that the global mobile industry will experience 15 percent growth of the 5G network by 2025, attributing the growth to a number of 5G network launches with compatible devices.   The Nigerian Communications Commission has inaugurated an interdepartmental working group, whose sole aim will be to combat the electronic financial fraud in Nigeria using telecom platforms. The Committee, according to Mr. Sunday Dare, NCC’s Executive Commissioner for Stakeholder Management, will articulate concrete responses to combat the use of telecom platforms to commit financial frauds.
