A latest report from the Nigerian Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS), shows that Automated Teller Machine (ATM) transaction in Nigeria, grew from N4.61 trillion in 2017 to N4.76 trillion at the end of the third quarter of 2018. The report, obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) shows that ATM transactions were the favorite among Nigerians in the year 2018, where electronic transactions was worth N56.85 trillion from January to September. The request for feature phones continue to experience positive growth, as shipments grew for the fourth consecutive quarter of 2018 and contributing to 23 percent of the total handset shipments. This is in contrast with the smartphone market, which is experiencing negative growth rates, according to Counterpoint’s Market Monitor service. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) said it has uncovered large volume of forceful and illegal deductions by Network providers and has put all necessary plans in place to get operators make refunds to consumers. “As a consumer-centric regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission has noted with great displeasure the unacceptably high level of consumer complaints in respect of forceful subscriptions to Value-Added Services (VAS), as well as airtime deductions for these subscriptions,” it said in a statement yesterday.
