Nigeria’s WEMA Bank has completed the upgrade of its Finacle 10 core banking application. Its Information Communications Technology vendor, CWG Plc that aided the upgrade has revealed. The global upgrade is now completed within the financial institution’s banking system. According to CWG, the upgrade will further enhance WEMA Bank’s branch and e-banking service offerings to customers whilst reducing system downtime and improving access to banking services. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has disclosed Nigeria has over 119 million Internet subscribers as at April 2019. The Computer Professionals (Registration Council) of Nigeria (CPN) has applauded the Federal Government’s approval for the implementation of a ‘White paper on Scheme of Service for Computer Professional Cadre in the Public Service’. The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has stated that realizing the African Continental Free Trade Area is capable of creating a single continental market of more than 1.3 billion people. With this kind of market, UNCTAD argues, will lead to a combined annual output of $2.2 trillion. The transition phase to the Continental Free Trade Area alone could generate welfare gains of $16.1 billion and boost intra-African trade by 33 per cent. The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has called on various public institutions in Nigeria to comply strictly to the social media framework and guidelines, signed into law on 25th January, 2019. Nigeria’s largest Systems Integration Company, CWG Plc achieved an improvement in the 2018 financial year, as it has been able to cut loss after tax by 24 percent. The Group loss after tax declined from N1.5 billion in 2017 to N1.1 billion in 2018. This was disclosed last week in Lagos at the company’s 2018 Annual Shareholders general meeting and report presentation.
